SA teen spotted by Ryan Seacrest!

American Idol host and media mogul Ryan Seacrest was recently bowled over by local up-and-coming singer Filipa. In fact the 18-year-old’s rendition of One Direction’s hit Story of My Life nabbed her the No.1 spot in his competition to find the biggest YouTube cover star!

We asked Filipa what advice she’d give about YouTubing and building a career in music.

“Pick a popular song that’s charting internationally. Make the production unique and not just a carbon copy of the original and make sure the producers do the song justice with the same TLC given to producing an original song. Shoot a professional music video, again as if it was your own song.”

Shopping teen queen

Bethany Mota (18) has more online followers than Lady Gaga and is making millions from posting her shopping videos on YouTube. The Californian teen is so popular a mall named a clothing and jewellery line after her. And her Instagram account, where she posts pictures of herself and her clothes, has over two million followers – that’s more than Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour and Cosmo combined!

She began her march toward teen fashion domination after she was bullied at school. “I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I didn’t want to leave my house,” she says. So she turned to YouTube as “kind of an outlet for me to be myself”.

Nearly five million people follow her YouTube channel. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/Macbarbie07?feature=watch
