How to catch your man

First he offered women a glimpse into how their male partners’ heads worked – and the book, Act like a Lady, Think like a Man, became a bestseller.

Now American actor, comedian and relationship adviser Steve Harvey has written another book: Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find, Keep, and Understand a Man – and it’s set to be another blockbuster.

This time he tells women, ‘‘My hope is when you think about what I’m sharing with you you’ll have a more informed understanding of men and how incredibly simple we are.’’

He guides women with explanations of how to understand men and male behaviour in various decades of their lives – their twenties, thirties, forties and fifties – and how that behaviour could affect a relationship.

And to women who often wonder why men seem to shy away from commitment he says, ‘‘The thing is, even as society keeps pushing girls and young and grown women to believe they have to be married to be complete and secure, nobody is really preaching this to boys and men.

‘‘Indeed from practically the time we come out of the womb we’re told to play the field and take our time. And as we get older we fiercely guard what we think are sane, rational reasons for staying single.’’
