Hugh Jackman: 'My cancer is back'

Our hearts go out to Hugh Jackman. The Hollywood star announced on Instagram recently that he had to have his recurring skin cancer removed for the sixth time!

Using the opportunity to share the dangers of the disease with his millions of fans, the 48-year-old father-of-two wrote, “Another basal cell carcinoma. Thanks to frequent body checks and amazing doctors, all is well. Looks worse with the dressing on than off. I swear! #wearsunscreen”

The Wolverine star first had a BCC removed in 2013 after having a mole checked under the advice of his wife Deborra-Lee Furness. At the time he wrote on Instagram, “Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!” Since then, he’s been treated five more times – including one on his shoulder – and after every treatment, he takes to social media to post about the dangers of not wearing sunscreen.

An example of what happens when you don't wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups.

Speaking to US People magazine in 2015, he said growing up in Australia made him a “prime candidate” for skin cancer, admitting he never wore sunscreen.

“I go every three months for check-ups. It’s the new normal for me. My doctor says I’ll likely have more, and if that’s your cross to bear in life, you should be so lucky.”
