After the 2016 Academy Awards on Sunday there's one person who arguably surprised people more than the rest with their style credentials. She may have previously remained under the radar, but Margot Robbie well and truly stunned with her red carpet look at the showbiz event, rocking a gold dress by Tom Ford.

However it was her face that got everyone talking, as she went for an extremely natural beauty look with minimal make-up, applied by artist Tyron Machhausen. Speaking about his inspiration to Pret-a-Reporter, Tyron explained it was model and actress Margaux Hemingway's beach photos that he recreated for Margot.

"The dress is very elaborate - it’s an absolute showstopper, it’s sensational - so we wanted to contrast it with an easy, effortless look, basically coming from the beach and throwing on this amazing gown, and there she goes," he added.

It's clear Margot is long rid of her Neighbours alter ego Donna Freedman thanks to her new Hollywood lifestyle, which all began when she landed a role in Oscar-nominated movie The Wolf of Wall Street opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. The film launched her as a fully fledged blonde bombshell, which is no surprise as her character Naomi was simply described as: "Long tanned legs, glamorous, blonde-haired 22-year-old."

The part required a lot of guts too as Margot went fully naked for one scene in the flick - an experience she noted as extremely intimidating at the time.

For the various premieres to promote the movie she decided to keep herself under wraps in an array of gorgeous gowns. Her red Oscar de la Renta dress in London featured long sleeves and a high neckline, while the subtle slit in the skirt gave just a flash of leg. Accssorised with gold pumps and an ear cuff, Margot could do no wrong that night.

Her feature Focus continued to see her dress sense evolve as once again she stepped into the shoes of a stylish character, con artist Jess. The Los Angeles premiere saw her turn heads in a gorgeous black and white dress, with white floral ruffles along the top contrasting against the sheer black pleats. One thing's for sure - the Giambattista Valli gown looked much better on Margot than the model on the runway!

She continues to shine in the spotlight and is quickly catching up to the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Kirsten Stewart with her style icon status. It wasn't always the case that Margot felt comfortable in her skin though, as she previously admitted she grew up feeling unattractive.

"As a teenager I was gangly and had braces and glasses. I was lucky that I had a pretty glamorous role in Wolf, and that was how most people saw me for the first time," Margot confided to the American edition of OK! magazine.

We hope she's ditched that outlook now though as we're sure there's bigger and better things on the horizon for the 25-year-old actress. Perhaps she could even be seen in a fashion campaign or two, especially after she dazzled at the New York premiere for her latest film Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on Tuesday night in a black plunging jumpsuit by Valentino. She may even make an appearance at Paris Fashion Week after recently soaking in the shows in the Big Apple!
