Do you think your child is addicted to computer games? Here are some guidelines to help them kick the habit.

Do you think your child is addicted to computer games? Here are some guidelines to help them kick the habit.

Time game time

Write down how long they spend on computer games every day and add it up at the end of the week. Tell them to think of all the other things they could have done with those 24, 36 or even 72 hours.

Find a few ways to cheat

Tell them to use the internet to find a few ways in which they can cheat at the game. This will make the game easier and it will bore them quicker.

Do their friends exist only in the virtual world?

Tell your child to count their friends. If they have more virtual friends (other online players or games characters) than real friends it might be time to talk about reconsidering their computer-game habits. Encourage them to go out and meet more people.

Play with friends

Have them invite friends over and to play computer games together. If their friends aren’t gaming addicts they’ll soon get bored. Then they can do something else together, make lunch together or play soccer.
