Jamie Dornan's biggest fear is being murdered by a "mad fan".

The 32-year-old actor began his career with a small role in 2006 flick Marie Antoinette and has gone on to gain success in hit British TV show The Fall. On top of that he's landed his biggest job to date in the upcoming movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, taking on the title role of businessman Christian Grey who has an interest in S&M.

'A lot of people are very angry that I’m playing this character'

The casting caused a divide among fans and while Jamie stuck by his decision, he's unsure how people will react once it drops in cinemas.

“I think my publicist said, ‘Yeah, mostly good.’ [I’m] very aware of opinion regarding the film, whether it be positive or negative. It is, by its nature, an easy target," he explained to Details magazine about avoiding the internet after the news of his role broke.

“I almost don’t want to put this out there into the ether, but I fear I’ll get murdered, like John Lennon, by one of those mad fans at the premiere. Because a lot of people are very angry that I’m playing this character. And I’m a father now, and a husband. I don’t want to die yet.”

Continuing his thought process about the notion of being killed, Jamie - who has a young daughter with his wife Amelia Warner - tried to put a humorous spin on it.

“And when I do get murdered, people will say, ‘God, isn’t it haunting how he did that interview in Details magazine and predicted his own death on the red carpet?’” he mused.

In the book, penned by E. L. James, Christian embarks on a steamy relationship with college graduate Anastasia Steele, played by Dakota Johnson in the flick. Jamie found himself drawn to the part when it came to the dynamics of his on screen alter ego.

"[It had to do with] an attraction and understanding I have for people that are broken in some way," he added. "Not that I’m some broken bird, but there’s a massive element of me that’s fractured from losing my mother so young, and I’m drawn to characters who are wounded.”
