Jane Fonda hoped people would think her fake movie boobs were real. The 76-year-old star’s latest big screen outing is in This Is Where I Leave You, about a group of adult siblings who return home after their father dies. Jane plays matriarch Hillary, who constantly embarrasses her children by oversharing. In one scene her dressing gown falls open, giving people a glimpse of her pneumatic chest – although her assets weren’t real.

'I was hoping people would think they were mine'

“There’s not been one person all day that hasn’t mentioned the boobs. I was hoping people would think they were mine,” she laughed to TV show Lorraine.

Jane is hugely fond of Hillary and sees some parallels between herself and her alter-ego. They have both written books for example, although they went about publishing them in different ways.

“I have the book, I have even written a book for kids, and I tend to overshare. Now the difference is I give my book in manuscript form to my kids so they can tell me what they want me to take out. Hillary didn’t do that, she just put it all in there and her kids are like, [puts fingers in ears], ‘La la la!’ But I love her, she’s such a free spirit. She just lets it all hang out. Secrets are poison to a family, I mean, y’know, she’s great,” she explained.

The actress was then quizzed on her life to date and whether she has regrets. She admits having a few, although they don’t unduly worry her. Jane believes it would be a rare person who could live to her age and not have done something to be ashamed of.

She also still has some life goals and is proud of her new TV show Grace and Frankie, about two rivals whose husbands fall in love.

“I want to do a successful television series that gives a cultural face to older women. It may be the one I’m doing now for Netflix with Lily Tomlin, who knows, but I’d like to do that before I die,” she said. “I’ve been almost everywhere in the world that I’m interested in going. I’m gonna go down the Grand Canyon with my grandkids. I’ve been lucky.”
