Japan's queen of porn quits at age 80

Why? Because her male counterparts just weren’t doing it for her any longer.

Japan’s oldest porn star has called it quits at the age of 80.

Maori Tezuka, a former opera singer, bid the racy industry goodbye after nine years.

"I have no regrets, but shooting became difficult when the actor wasn't my type," she explained to local Japanese media.

The geriatric porn star joined the industry at 71 after she met someone in the production industry, who then invited the vivacious vixen to make an appearance.

The then septuagenarian enjoyed it so much she switched professions.

“It was lively and fun on the set,” Tezuka explained. “I mean, it is work after all; you just have to do your best when you're in the spotlight.” However, according to Japan’s grand old queen of porn, "shoots became difficult" when actors didn’t tickle her fancy any longer.

While her disinterest in her co-stars was reason enough to trigger her resignation (or is it retirement?) Tezuka hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a return sometime in the future.

“I’ve already been asked about returning in two or three years,” she said. “I said I’d think about it.”

Geriatric porn – or "old people porn" – is a thriving industry in Japan, where a quarter of the population are over 65.

According to industry insiders, the country’s pornography industry generates around R252 billion a year – and as with the population, geriatrics contribute about a quarter of that market.

Tezuka’s advice to senior citizens keen on exploring the world of porn?

"Once the lights go on, you just do your best.”
