Jeff Daniels is currently having a career highlight.

The American actor has been a fixture in Hollywood since the early '80s, starring in countless films and TV shows. His turn as lead anchor Will McAvoy in The Newsroom has seen Jeff scoop an Emmy award, with the third and final season currently airing in the US. He's also recently reprised his role as goofball Harry Dunne in Dumber and Dumber To, the sequel to the 1994 original. Having two such polar opposite projects premiering at the same time has been an odd experience for 59-year-old Jeff.

‘Next thing you know I'm having a Dumb and Dumber premiere tonight and a Newsroom premiere tomorrow night’

"It's a thrill to me and a career highlight and perhaps unprecedented to have The Newsroom air its first episode on Sunday night and then Dumb and Dumber To open domestically on Friday," Jeff laughed to the American edition of Esquire magazine. "I couldn't be happier with that. I've always wanted to show range. I feel like taking a billboard out on Sunset Boulevard and just going 'Any questions?' But it really was a coincidence.

"We didn't know when the third season of Newsroom would air and they were almost looking at doing Dumb and Dumber To in the summer and then they wanted it to be closer to the 20th anniversary and so it was going to be December and now it's November. Next thing you know I'm having a Dumb and Dumber premiere tonight and a Newsroom premiere tomorrow night."

Dumb and Dumber To sees Jeff and co-star Jim Carrey reprise their roles of best friends Harry and Lloyd. The film is once again helmed by the Farrelly brothers Bobby and Peter, and Jeff admits the cast and crew had no clue the first movie would be so popular.

"We had no idea it would. And I think that's what drove the sequel: the response at five years later, ten years, 15 years later. And people of all ages, not just teenage boys. But people of all ages coming up and going, 'That movie! I watch it every time it's on. I've rented the DVD, I've worn it out,'" he smiled.
