She wasn't conscious, but those who loved the style queen and comedienne knew Joan Rivers would have wanted to remain immaculate even in her last days.

Speaking to Radar Online, celeb gossip columnist Cindy Adams revealed her friend was kept stylish by "a team of make-up artists, hairdressers and even manicurists, who painted her nails purple and white and her toenails green."

Joan (81) passed away on Thursday after an operation at a New York City clinic on 28 August left her unconscious. According to the celeb gossip site, Cindy added that the hospital room where Joan spent her final days was decorated by celebrity event star Preston Bailey with flowers, plants, bows and other décor. Loved ones made sure that show tunes from Oklahoma! played on a CD player nearby. Meanwhile, celebs have taken to their social media profiles in droves to pay tribute to the Hollywood icon.

Joan received treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital and the star was in critical condition when she first reached the medical centre. The comedy icon was then put on life support and the New York Daily News reported doctors were attempting to life her from a medically induced coma earlier this week.

Joan's funeral will be held at Temple Emanu-El in New York City on Sunday.
