Britain's Duchess of Cambridge will attend the Tusk Conservation Awards on 12 September in her first public appearance since becoming a mother.

Britain's Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is to undertake her first public appearance since becoming a mother on 12 September.

The 31-year-old royal and Prince William ? who welcomed their first child, Prince George, into the world on 22 July ? will be a guest of honour at the inaugural Tusk Conservation Awards at The Royal Society in central London next month.

A Kensington Palace spokesman confirmed to MailOnline, "It is a long-standing engagement."

Kate will still officially be on maternity leave at the time of the event, which is being organised by UK charity Tusk Trust which funds African conservation projects.

The royal couple will meet the nominees, unsung heroes of wildlife conservation, at a private reception prior to the ceremony, during which the winner of the Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa award will be announced as well as other accolades.

It’s not yet known who will babysit George when Kate and William, who’s a patron of the charity, are at the ceremony, but it’s expected to be the duchess' mother, Carole Middleton.

William, Kate and George are currently residing at Carole and Michael Middleton's home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, southeast England, following the birth of the family's newest member.
