She’s gorgeous, talented and Hollywood’s darling so you’d never guess she suffered from anxiety as a child.

The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence (23) has revealed she took medication and went to therapy to help with her social anxiety and hyperactivity as a child.

“When my mother told me about my childhood, she always told me there was like a light in me, a spark that inspired me constantly,” she told French magazine Madame Figaro. “When I entered school, the light went out. We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. But I had friends.”

Her nickname was "Nitro as in nitroglycerin. I was hyperactive, curious about everything,” she says.

Jennifer is very aware of the pressures of being in Hollywood from a young age – she started acting when she was just 15. “One of the dangers in the film industry is that things are too fast,” the Golden Globe winner said. “I do not want to burn the stages of my life.”

The Oscar winner acts alongside actors Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in the second movie of The Hunger Games. Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be out in SA cinemas on the 21st November 2013.
