Katy Perry's parents are apparently "wary" of John Mayer.

The Dark Horse singer and rugged musician have been dating on and off for two years following her divorce from ex-husband Russell Brand in 2012. Katy and John split up at the beginning of last year amid rumours he had been unfaithful.

Since then Katy is thought to have briefly dated DJ Diplo, but recently she and John have seemingly got close again and were snapped together at the Super Bowl earlier this month, where she performed.

'Her parents are still extremely wary of him and have urged Katy not to rush into things'

But before John can get the green light, he reportedly has to win over his alleged girlfriend's relatives.

"Katy's completely over her relationship with Diplo and wants to get back together with John. She feels like she's forgiven him now for his lack of commitment, but says he needs to work to get her family back on side," an insider told Closer magazine. "Her parents are still extremely wary of him and have urged Katy not to rush into things."

The couple were often spotted out looking smitten during their time together and even recorded track Who You Love together in 2013. To make sure the past doesn't repeat itself, Katy (30) is said to be planning something to help.

"She's told pals she does plan on taking things slowly with John, and even wants him to enrol into a commitment coaching course," the source noted. "She doesn't fully trust him and sees this time as a trial period."

John was on hand to congratulate the popstar following her halftime performance at the Super Bowl this month. But he doesn't understand why others don't feel as confident praising the singer's vocals.

“It was unbelievable. And I think the whole thing about the sharks, everybody wants to talk about the sharks because it’s just something everyone can grab onto because not everyone feels comfortable walking around saying that Katy Perry was amazing,” he said on The Late Late Show, referring to the shark stage gimmick.
