A Kempton Park man has confessed to killing his own mother.

Annatjie Stassen was reported missing on Thursday last week after family and friends couldn’t get hold of her.

The 78-year-old's body was eventually found by a group of women returning from a church service in the veld near Bronkhorstspruit on Sunday afternoon.

The Lowvelder reports that her son Gideon and his girlfriend appeared briefly in the Kempton Park magistrate’s court earlier this week in connection with the woman’s death.

Initially Gideon (43), who worked as a mechanical engineer at a water and sanitation department, told the police he’d seen his mother get into an unknown car, but in a bizarre twist he has admitted killing her.

The Kempton Park police spokesperson, Captain Jethro Mtshali, says Gideon allegedly had an argument with her before she disappeared. She was pushed and fell on her head.

Gideon has apparently admitted that’s what happened and said he and his girlfriend took her body from her house in Kempton Park and left it in the veld near Bronkhorstspruit.

After an unsuccessful search by police her body was found .

Gideon and his 31-year-old girlfriend haven’t yet been asked to plead. The case has been postponed to give the couple time to obtain legal representation.
