Kim Kardashian has been cut out of a photo of her, her husband and Jerusalem’s mayor by an ultra-Orthodox Jewish news website, because they consider her to be a “pornographic symbol’.

Kim and Kanye West were snapped with Jerusalem’s Mayor Nir Barkat during a dinner date. The news website, Kikar HaShabbat, used a photos where Kim was either blurred or obscured by a restaurant receipt.

In the accompanying article, she was referred to only as “West’s wife”.

The editor of the website, Nissim Ben Haim, defended the decision to remove Kim by stating that she was a “pornographic symbol” who contradicts ultra-Orthodox values. Pictures of women are often not shown in the ultra-Orthodox community out of modesty. In January, another ultra-Orthodox newspaper removed German chancellor Angela Merkel from a photo for the same reasons.
