Universal Pictures has confirmed Kristen Stewart will star in the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman.

Kristen Stewart is officially starring in the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, despite having had an affair with the first film's director, Rupert Sanders.

Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson confirmed the 23-year-old actress ? who had a brief fling with Rupert that resulted in the end of his marriage to model Liberty Ross last year ? is again taking on the lead role in the second instalment of the film, which will be released in 2015.

According to gossip website JustJared.com, the studio executive confirmed Kristen has signed up to the star in the film at the CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Tuesday but didn’t clarify whether Chris Hemsworth or Charlize Theron would reprise their roles as the huntsman and the evil queen.

Kristen, who’s mended her relationship with boyfriend Robert Pattinson following her affair, revealed she’s excited about the sequel and predicted it would be "amazing".

She said in December: "It's gonna be f**king amazing. No, I'm so excited about it, it's crazy. The other day I said that there was a strong possibility that we're going to make a sequel, and that's very true, but everyone was, like, 'Whoa, stop talking about it.' So no, I'm totally not allowed to talk about it."

It was previously reported Rupert won’t direct the sequel, despite the huge success of the first film.
