Lindsay Lohan has cancelled two performances on her West End show because she’s “too ill”. The 28-year-old actress is currently starring in David Mamet play Speed-the-Plow at London’s Playhouse Theatre. Fans who booked tickets especially to see the Mean Girls star will be disappointed to know she’ll be temporarily replaced by an understudy.

'Dr wants me to rest. Wont make shows 2nt but pls enjoy #speedtheplow XxL'

“So sorry everyone but Im too ill to perform and down for the count,” Lindsay wrote on her Twitter account Wednesday. “Dr wants me to rest. Wont make shows 2nt but pls enjoy #speedtheplow XxL (sic)”.

This marks Lindsay’s first cancellation of a performance since the play began its run on September 24. It will no doubt spark controversy among critics who have slammed her as unreliable in the past.

The star said previously she wanted this to be a way for her to restore her credibility.

“I like the idea of being able to fight for what I lost, essentially,” Lindsay told UK newspaper The Telegraph recently. “I lost a lot of… I wouldn’t say… I don’t think ‘respect’ is the word… ‘trust’ from people. And I don’t mind gaining that back.”

She plays secretary Karen in the production, a role that was formerly played by Madonna in an earlier run. The storyline takes a look at the movie industry and also stars Nigel Lindsay and Richard Schiff.

The actress has been in the limelight for negative reasons over the last few years, with stints in rehab and alleged erratic behavior overshadowing her career.

She has since been managing eight performances a week of Speed-the-Plow with little to no bad reports on her work ethic. And many theatre critics have been impressed.

“Shock news: Lindsay Lohan can act a bit,” wrote Times UK reviewer Dominic Maxwell not long after the show opened.
