Lionel Messi and his dad sentenced to 21 months in JAIL

Soccer star Lionel Messi is facing 21 months behind bars.

The Barcelona forward and his father Jorge Horacio Messi were sentenced to time behind bars for tax fraud, BBC reports.

Prosecutors said father and son defrauded Spanish tax authorities of 4,1 million Euros from 2007 - 2009.

The Argentinian five-time Ballon d'Or winner has played for Spanish club Barca since 2004.

However, it's unlikely they'll see the inside of a cell. According to Metro.co.uk, the pair will avoid jail time if they pay a fine.

The Mirror reports that under Spanish law, a prison sentence under two years can be served under probation.

"I didn’t know anything. I only worried about playing football," Messi said last week.
