He became the topic of conversation and launched many a meme in December after Madiba's memorial but where is 'fake interpreter' Thamsanqa Jantjie now?

He became the topic of conversation and launched many a meme in December but where is Thamsanqa Jantjie now?

Dubbed “the fake interpreter”, Jantjie – who was exposed for "making up" his own signs at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in December last year – has been at Sterkfontein Hospital in Krugersdorp since before Christmas, his wife tells YOU. Siziwe Jantjies, who affectionately refers to her husband as Thami, says it has been tough to maintain their household without him. She and her three children, the eldest (8) and the twins (2), have been alone since Jantjie was admitted. Their property in Bram Fischerville hosts their home as well as their bed and breakfast business, which Siziwe runs.

'It is not my place to argue with doctors.'

After local and international media came down on him like a ton of bricks for his fake sign language interpretations, Jantjie revealed he suffered from Schizophrenia.

Siziwe says when she met Jantjies she knew he was ill but it did not change who he was to her. Saying that he has been admitted to hospital for long periods in the past, Siviwe says she does not know how much longer Jantjie will be at Sterkfontein.

“It is not my place to argue with doctors. If they say he needs to be there then that’s it.”
