Madonna: It’s the age of the ass

Madonna is proud of her “inspired wardrobe malfunction” at Sunday night’s Grammys.

The 56-year-old singer chose haute couture pieces by Givenchy for the music industry’s big night in Los Angeles. She rocked the red carpet in a pastel and black corseted dress complete with fishnet tights and thigh-high leather boots, in a look creative director Riccardo Tisci described as “Givenchy warrior”. The outfit was eye catching enough, but Madonna caused eyebrows to rise even higher by lifting the skirt to flash her butt as she walked.

“I had an inspired wardrobe malfunction moment,” she told radio host Ryan Seacrest.

"As I was walking away, I wasn't mooning - I just lifted my dress up. Mooning is like naked butt.”

'It was me having fun and being cheeky, no pun intended'

The star was surprised the move garnered so many headlines as she doesn’t think it was anything that outrageous. With stars such as Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj famous for their shapely derrieres, Madonna thought it would be fun to join in with the trend.

“Everyone’s seen my naked butt already. Not for a while, not since the 90s.” she mused. "It's the age of ass, isn't it? It was me having fun and being cheeky, no pun intended."

Later in the evening the star changed into a red number, also created for her by Givenchy.

This isn’t the first time the outrageous singer has courted controversy with her sartorial choices at the Grammys. Last year she turned up in a black trouser suit teamed with a large hat, cane, sparkly silver gloves and gold grills on her teeth. Her youngest son David was with her, with Madonna later explaining he’d selected her outfit.

"For this look, I followed his lead. He dressed me tonight," she revealed to E! News. "He wanted me to dress like him, so I obeyed him.

"We're both working the Ralph Lauren angle… Yeah, I'm grillin'. It p**ses everybody off when I wear my grill, so that's why I wear it!”
