A man was attacked by a squirrel after trying to take a selfie with the animal.

The man, known only by his Reddit username "supplenupple", was taking a leisurely stroll with his mother in Tampa, Florida, in the southeastern United States when he spotted the bushy-tailed creature and decided to pose for a photo alongside it, according to Buzzfeed.com.

He posted the 'selfie' on the social networking site and wrote: "When I got close enough, the squirrel actually tried grabbing my phone. I shook it off, then snapped this photo."

Although the squirrel appears calm and collected in the shot, 'supplenupple' was soon left fearing for his life when the vicious animal pounced on him.

He added: "Next thing I knew, the squirrel was on my shoulder, then under my shirt, and then hanging off my back!"
