When Valdelucio Goncalves' grieving relatives went to pay their final respects in a morgue in Salvador, Brazil, they discovered him 'wriggling' inside his zipped up body bag.

Dead man walking? More like dead man wriggling!

When Valdelucio Goncalves' grieving brother went to see his body in the morgue in Salvador, Brazil the next morning, he discovered Valdelucio "wriggling" inside a zipped-up body bag.

"All I needed to do was put some new clothes on him, so he'd be ready for the undertaker to come and collect him," his brother Walterio explained to Brazilian G1 website. "Workers at the morgue let me in, and showed me where he was lying, in a zipped-up body bag." But as Walterio approached the body bag, which had been left lying on a table in the morgue through the night, he saw his brother move. "I went crazy and shouted for the medical team, the nurse, so they could see what was happening. They checked him and confirmed that he was still alive." Valdelucio (54), who had been diagnosed with stomach cancer three months earlier, was declared dead at Menandro de Farias General Hospital just after 11pm, supposedly of "respiratory and multiple organ failure", the Daily Mail reports.

'His feet had already been tied together and his nose and ears stuffed with cotton wool'
"'It was a shock to all of us when they called to tell us he'd passed away," his niece Patricia Cintra said.  "But we started making the funeral arrangements. "By Sunday morning everything was sorted. We'd paid for his death notice in a newspaper, bought the coffin and booked his funeral. "His feet had already been tied together and his nose and ears stuffed with cotton wool."

After Walterio alerted hospital staff that his 'dead' brother was very much alive, Valdelucio was rushed to the intensive care unit.

Unsurprisingly, Valdelucio's family opted to have him transferred to another hospital.
