An elderly man was shot and wounded when three armed men robbed a store at the Cresta shopping mall in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said earlier on Wednesday that the man was shot through the arm.

Customers recall hearing six shots being fired with one customer being hit by a stray bullet, when the gang made their exit. Police have revealed that there were three men and the gang escaped through Entrance 4 of the mall. The police are at the scene and no arrests have been made.

Radio personality, Metro FM Dj Paul Mtirara laments the lack of Security at the mall.

The three men entered an electronics store and ordered the employees to lie down. They took an undisclosed number of cellphones and i-Pads and fled the scene.

"The men then started shooting randomly in the parking lot of the mall, where the elderly man was injured," said Mofokeng.
