Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was radiant as the exquisite tiara was placed on her head, signalling the start of her reign as Miss South Africa.

The Mpumalanga-born beauty took home the coveted title at the Miss South Africa finals at Carnival City in Johannesburg tonight, beating out 11 other hopefuls in the eyes of judges, Kojo Baffoe, Sophie Ndaba, Casper Bosman and Pnina Fenster.

Elizabeth Molapo and Taylor-Skye Robinson won the titles of first and second princess respectively.

Ntando (23) will take over duties from outgoing queen Liesl Laurie, who won the Miss World Africa title during her 2015 reign. Read more: One of these 12 beauties will be the next Miss South Africa During her time as Miss SA, Ntando will have access to R200 000, sponsored by Cell C and Sun International, to spend on random acts of kindness. Varsity College has also donated one full scholarship worth R240 000 for Ntando to award to a deserving prospective student and 10 bursaries worth R20 000 for female adult learners to study part-time.

A crown and a new job description is not all Ntando has. As the winner, she’ll walk away with prizes worth over of R2 million, including a Nissan Duke, a seven-night international holiday and cash.

Ntandoyenkosi is an Education Honours student at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her dream, she says, is to make an appreciable difference to the society in which she lives.

In her spare time, she loves going to the movies or meeting up with “my girls” for a meal.

Her message to girls and young women: “Most women succeed against all odds. I say start writing your own story.”
