Miss SA finalists announced

Here they are – the beautiful women who will be doing battle to be crowned Miss South Africa 2014.

The Miss South Africa pageant, presented by Sun International and sponsored by Cell C, takes place at Sun City on Sunday 30 March.

Top 12 Miss SA finalists back row: Anzel, Mishka, Rolene, Caylene, Matlala, Abigail, Ziphozakhe, Julia. Front: Tshegofatso, Dipalesa, Tidimalo and Jade.

The finalists’ credentials are impressive: many have completed or are studying for business degrees; one is on her way to becoming a medical doctor; one has national colours for netball; others have provincial colours for judo, water polo and horse-riding; and one contestant worked as a professional singer for a while.

South African TV viewers will have the chance to get to know their favourite finalist in the build-up to the crowning thanks to reality show The Road to Miss South Africa, which will be screened every Sunday on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) at 5.30 pm.

You’ll get to see the 12 attend Miss South Africa boot-camp where they’re put through their paces with a series of challenges that include filming a TV commercial for Cell C; taking part in a safari with a twist; teaching a class about the insect world; a pancake and cupcake competition and a runway show with a difference.

Alison McKie, of Sun International, says they are delighted with this year’s finalists. “We believe we have a very strong top 12, a group of young women who are passionate about competing and who have the intelligence and dedication to be a winner. The judges had a difficult task choosing the 12 from the 33 semi-finalists, but I’m confident that the eventual winner will prove a powerful ambassador for the Miss South Africa brand.”

Cell C is the headline sponsor of The Miss South Africa pageant for the first time, in line with their Believe Manifesto and ongoing strategy to empower women.

Suzette van der Merwe, Executive: Commercial Communications for Cell C and Miss South Africa 1990, was also impressed with the standard of the top 12 and believes the winner will do full justice to the brand.

“Cell C supports the Miss SA pageant as it provides a platform that grooms young women to become inspirational role models. We believe in providing and supporting opportunities that will inspire young women to dream big and create a better future for themselves. The finalists in this year’s Miss SA epitomise these qualities. The 12 contestants have all proved that they strive to contribute to the improvement of our society and have worked hard to achieve finalist status. The winner will hold a major role within South Africa and her passion, determination and perseverance are the key ingredients for success and what Cell C stands for.”
