When a single mother of Baltimore, in America, saw her teenage son was involved in a violent demonstration and causing chaos she without hesitation grabbed the 16-year-old by his ear and gave him a piece of her mind. Little did Toya Graham know she would soon be an internet sensation praised worldwide for her strict parenting style.

Her son, Michael, took part in the demonstration against police violence after 25-year-old Freddie Gray died of his injuries in April while being held in police detention. Violence has spread in Baltimore in the past few days and Toya said she was determined her son wouldn’t end up as a statistic like Freddie Gray.
'We made eye contact and I didn’t even think of cameras'

“We made eye contact and I didn’t even think of cameras. He’s my only son. Is he a perfect child? No. But he’s mine,” she told CBS. The mother of six says her son knew he was in trouble when she approached him. “My emotions just took over. I was shocked and angry because you don’t want to see your child doing anything like that.” Law enforcement officials in Baltimore have praised her, saying there should be more parents like her. She has been named Mother Of The Year on social media.
