Kids. You gotta love ‘em.

A mother has revealed that she caught her five-year-old brushing his eyes with a toothbrush.

Why?

Because Spongebob Squarepants did it, that’s why.

Blanca Barret (23) found it hilarious when her son Raul Lara shower her exactly how he had been brushing his teeth after following the example of his cartoon hero.

“He’s at an impressionable age where he picks stuff up that he’s seen on TV,” Blanca says.

"Spongebob is his favourite show. He watches it every day he is a huge fan.”

So much so, he’s decided to follow the yellow character’s hygiene routine too!

“He usually goes to bed early and knows his bedtime routine. I’ll just tell him, ‘It’s time for bed, go and brush your teeth’, and that’s what he does.

“Recently we have been showing him how to flush the toilet and he asked me to help him, so I went with him.

“After he brushed his teeth, I turned off the water and he said, 'Wait, you forgot my eyes.'

“I asked what he meant and he said, 'I've got to brush my eyes so they don't get crusty’.

"I told him he didn't have to and that he just has to take a shower, but he told me he had to and literally started brushing his eyes."

When she asked him where he’d picked up the new habit, he answered that he had ‘seen Spongebob doing it on TV’.

Blanca, an account manager from Oklahoma in the United States, posted a clip of the little guy demonstrating the eye-brushing.

"Usually, I just tell him to brush his teeth and go to bed. Today I joined him. This is what happened. Worst part is I don't even know how long he's been doing this," she captioned the video.

But the mother isn’t upset by what the Nickelodeon has unknowingly taught her son.

“I think it was meant to be funny and that's the way we took it. So I don't see why they shouldn't include it.

"We as parents, of course, have to be the ones to tell them 'No, we can't do that in real life for this reason.'”

And Blanca has her limits.

"I know there are cartoons where it shows killing or hurting others but my son isn't allowed to watch things like that because it is negative behaviour.”
