What’s it about?

It’s the true story of a young writer who learns he has a rare form of cancer of the spinal cord. Devastated, he tries to carry on with his life.

Who will enjoy it?

Make no mistake, this film is no Sunday school picnic. It’s based on reality and there’s no added romance or humour; the story is told the way it happened.

Its strongest point is the black humour that sometimes catches you unawares and may leave you rattled.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt once again shows he’s one of Hollywood’s brightest stars – his brave portrayal and honesty make his character an unforgettable victor who, despite the overwhelming odds against him, manages to keep a sober outlook.

He’s brilliantly supported by Seth Rogen who gives his character his usual underplayed, nerdy interpretation but with more heart than in previous roles.

And Anna Kendrick, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Up in the Air, provides what must be one of the most interesting and revealing interpretations of a hero’s love interest yet.

This film is ideal for anyone who’s ever experienced an absolute low point in their lives and felt they simply couldn’t carry on.

50/50 gives you the courage to face life again. Despite the young cast it’s not a laid-back, easy-going movie – it’s a tough, demanding watch but with a lot to offer.
