“Tyrone is angry about her death and he’s struggling to come to terms with it,” his mom says.

They were young and in love – but then she died during an island vacation, allegedly because her stepmom hit her in the face.

Now, two months after the tragedy, Tyron Bothma has had a tattoo done on his arm in remembrance of his love. The tattoo is Mundolene’s birth date – 24 February 1999 – written in Roman numerals, XXIV.II.XCI, and radiating what looks like rays of sunlight.

Tyron (21) posted a pic of the tattoo – done on his upper arm – on his Facebook page. Several friends and family members have liked the photo and posted comments.

“The rays of the sun symbolise for Tyron how Mundolene touched his life. Mundolene was his ray of sunlight,” Vanessa van Niekerk, Tyron’s mom, told YOU on the telephone.

Tyron, who lives in Springs, was in a car accident shortly before YOU’s call, but was only lightly injured.

“Everyone misses Mundolene terribly,” Vanessa said, bursting into tears. “Tyrone is angry about her death and he’s struggling to come to terms with it.”

YOU previously reported on Mundolene’s death on 5 October during a family holiday in Mauritius. Her stepmom, Marietjie Vosloo (33), allegedly hit the teenager after the two argued, after which Mundolene collapsed and developed a brain bleed. She was later declared dead in a clinic on the island.

Marietjie was arrested by local police in Mauritius and is still in custody. Formal charges are yet to be laid against her.

A short cellphone video has since surfaced which Mundolene took during a previous school holiday in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal, in which she shares a special moment with her dad, Mike Vosloo.
