An Ohio community has been left in shock after the body of a murdered woman hanging from a fence was mistaken for Halloween decoration.

According to police reports, Rebecca Cade’s death was a result of s blunt force trauma to the head and neck. A large blood-stained rock “the size of a grapefruit” was found near the body.

The 31-year-old had reportedly tried to escape her attacker after being severely beaten. As she climbed the fence, her sleeve got snared in the barbs.

'This can’t be happening here'

"She ended up passing away dangling from the fence," explained Detective Bud Lytle. Several neighbours noticed the woman's body on the fence but thought it was Halloween gimmick. “I thought somebody was playing a prank on the construction workers and I told my daughter it was just a dummy. It was so awful that I thought the prank went too far,” said resident Tammy Dixon.

It was only when one construction worker went to remove the “decoration” that they realised it was an actual body.

“Just put my hands over my face and said, ‘This can’t be happening here, it’s not real, and I just didn’t see what I thought I saw,'” continued Tammy.

Donnie Cochenour Jr. has been arrested in connection with the murder. He allegedly confessed to police that he and Rebecca had had a fight prior to the incident.
