Nicole Richie is relishing being a mum to two young children.

Currently in Sydney, Australia for the Golden Slipper horse race, the fashionista revealed to The Daily Telegraph that the best part of motherhood is being able to relive her own childhood through her kids.

Mum to daughter Harlow, seven, and son Sparrow, five, with husband Joel Madden, Nicole revealed she now has an excuse to bust out all those old movies she was previously “too embarrassed” to watch by alone.

'You know, I’ve been wanting to re-watch those movies'

“I get to live my childhood all over again. My daughter is seven, so we’re starting to watch all the fun movies together, like The Sound of Music. You know, I’ve been wanting to re-watch those movies, but I’ve been too embarrassed to watch them by myself,” she told the newspaper.

The 33-year-old said she’s found her groove when it comes to raising her seven-year-old mini-me. However, she does have some concerns about just what it’ll be like during those notoriously tough teenage years. Though in her true laidback style, she’ll just figure it out as she goes along.

“Right now, I know how to be a mother to (a seven-year-old),” she explained, adding, “When they were born, I knew how to be a mum to a baby.

“I will have to see how I’m going to be when they’re teenagers, but I think it also depends on who they end up being. I don’t believe in black-and-white parenting... I’m going to have to figure it out as it happens.”

When it comes to finding that elusive work-life balance, Nicole revealed she’s no closer to figuring it out than anyone else. In fact, it’s something she’s struggled with ever since her kids began school.

“A common conversation I’ve been having since my eldest started school, one I’m constantly hearing from different mums, is: What’s the appropriate amount of time to be at work and what’s the appropriate amount of time to be at home?” she explained.
