There was no progress on Wednesday in the case of a man accused of killing three-year-old Cuburne van Wyk, of Reiger Park on the East Rand.

The State last week asked for a postponement, stating that the national director of public prosecutions needed more time to decide on the matter.

The State gave the same reasons when asking for a new postponement when the matter was heard in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

In the meantime the accused, Nathaniel Daniel Mpoku, would remain behind bars.

Dressed in a striped T-shirt, he bowed his head and listened attentively as his lawyers indicated they did not oppose the State's request for a postponement. The case would return to court on January 5.

Mpoku allegedly killed Van Wyk, of Ramsey's informal settlement in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni.

The boy disappeared on August 6 while playing outside with his siblings. A passer-by found his body at a mine dump in Reiger Park three days later.

Police said he died as a result of multiple head injuries and burn wounds.

Mpoku was arrested and charged for his murder several days later.
