"I could have died on my way to ask the girl of my dreams to marry me."

Nothing was going to stop this young man from proposing to his girlfriend. Not even a horrible accident.

Jamacio Kimble got down on one knee in the middle of a hospital, just hours after he was involved in a car crash that landed him in the emergency room.

Jamacio was planning to propose to his girlfriend, Kayla King, on the eve of their first anniversary. He was on his way to pick up flowers before popping the question when the weather took a turn for the worse. He ended up in a car crash caused by storms in Tennessee in the US.

"The original plan was that night at church we were going to have our youth and college career class get together and have roses and music and the lights off, and I would be in the middle of the room,” Jamacio explained to WBIR  a news organisation in Knoxville, Tennessee.

After careening off the road with his car, he ended up with a utility pole crashing through his window. His baseball teammates, who were driving behind him, called for help.

When Kayla received a call saying her boyfriend had been involved in a car accident, she rushed to the emergency room at Sweetwater Hospital.

Jamacio, who was lucky not to sustain any serious injuries in the crash, decided he was still going to make the perfect night happen.

“If you look at the car, the pole was in my front seat and passenger seat, and I could have died on my way to ask the girl of my dreams to marry me," Jamacio says. Surrounded by his friends, teammates and coach, he got down on bended knee.

In the video, that's since gone viral, he says, "I'm sorry for how the night went, the original plan was to propose to you at church but the tables have turned."

And she said yes! Kayla said in a Facebook post that she couldn't be happier.

"So with a punctured thigh and bruises all over your legs and hand so beat up. You got down on one knee and asked me to be your wife. Never have I ever been so proud of you and the man that you are. So then, in the middle of Sweetwater hospital I said yes! Jamacio I love you. I am so blessed that you are still here."

The couple is planning to finish college first before tying the knot.
