No one but the tormenters could hear the cries or screams of the victims.

A nun has been arrested after she allegedly aided priests in raping and sexually abusing deaf students for years.

Kosaka Kumiko (42) reportedly helped the religious leaders fondling, oral sex and anal and vaginal rapes. The sickening acts were apparently committed in the bathrooms, dormitories, garden and basement of the Antonio Provolo Institute for the Deaf in Verona, Italy.

An investigation into the allegations against Kumiko, who was born in Japan but has Argentine citizenship, began after a former student accused the nun of making her wear a nappy to cover up a haemorrhage. She suffered a haemorrhage after she was allegedly raped by priest Horacio Corbacho.

“They always said it was a game: "Let’s go play, let’s go play" and they would take us to the girls’ bathroom,” revealed one of the women who was reportedly abused at the school.

At least 24 students from the institute have since come forward to accuse Corbacho, Nicola Corradi and three other men, who allegedly repeatedly raped them beside the image of the Virgin Mary. What is even more chilling is the thought that no one but the tormenters could hear the cries or screams of the victims. When police arrested the five accused men in November last year, magazines filled with pornography and about $34 000 (R459 200) were found in Corradi’s room. After playing fugitive for a month, Kumiko, who worked at the school between 2004 and 2012, eventually turned herself in last week.

She and the five men are being held at a jail in Mendoza. The group has remained tight-lipped since their arrest. If found guilty, they could face up to 50 years behind bars.
