One goal, one baby for Ronaldo

Catch a glimpse in YOU this week (22 July issue) of the little tyke who caused a tizz when his famous father announced his arrival during the World Cup.

Little Cristiano Jnr, first child of Portuguese soccer hunk Cristiano Ronaldo, made his first public appearance at a petrol station in Lisbon with his grandmother, Dolores Aveiro, her boyfriend, Jose Andrade, and a nanny. He’s a cute little thing, although with his fair hair and skin he doesn’t immediately look much like his olive-skinned dad.

The soccer ace reportedly paid an American woman to have the baby, who was conceived last year while Cristiano (25) was on holiday in San Diego, California. It’s not clear whether the pregnancy was planned or the result of a fling or who the mom is – perhaps we’ll never know.

The Portuguese striker is emphatic the baby’s mother wants to remain anonymous. “My son will be under my exclusive guardianship,” he said after announcing the baby’s birth on Twitter on 4 July.

Grandma Dolores (55) says the baby was born on 17 June in America. After Portugal was eliminated from the World Cup Cristiano immediately headed back to his homeland to meet his son.

Representatives of childcare organisations in Portugal were quick to tut-tut because he and his girlfriend, Russian model Irina Shayk (24), left for New York without the little boy and partied up a storm. Dolores and Cristiano’s sister, Katia Aveiro (31), took care of the baby.

The tabloids have had a field day speculating about the mother’s identity. Some talked of a surrogate mom paid £10 million (about R115 million) to give the soccer ace a “mini Ronaldo” and keep quiet.

“People might think they know everything about this but they don’t know anything at all yet,” Katia said. “Cristiano will be back soon so he can say more if he wants. The baby is in good health and that’s most important. He looks like his father and like me. He has the same eyes.”

The boy already wears designer clothes from his dad’s CR7 range, which Cristiano wants to extend to include babywear.

Sources say Cristiano Jnr is his father’s sole heir and will grow up in the lap of luxury. Financial experts estimate by the end of his career the football stud will be worth more than £150 million (about R1,7 billion)

But how will his current relationship and his party lifestyle Cope with the pressure of a baby? One gossip writer has this jocular advice: “Cancel your weekend plans. In fact, cancel the rest of your life. And learn how to do 15 things at once.”

Sounds a lot tougher than playing in a World Cup.
