One-plate Wonder

Cooking time: 30 min

Serves: 4 – 6

100 g butter

200 ml cake flour

1.2 l hot milk

pinch nutmeg

salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

15 ml (1 T) olive oil

1 onion, chopped

1 green pepper, diced

250 g mushrooms, cut into quarters

250 g pasta of your choice

250 g bacon, cut into pieces

500 g mince

125 ml (½ c) grated cheese

Pre-heat oven to 180 °C.

Melt the butter and add the cake flour.

Heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture starts bubbling.

Add the hot milk a little at a time, stirring continuously.

Simmer until the sauce thickens and is done.

Season with nutmeg, salt and pepper.

Keep aside.

Heat the oil in a saucepan, add the onion, green pepper and mushrooms and fry until the onion is translucent.

Cook the pasta until just al dente, strain and keep aside.

Once the onions are cooked, add the bacon and fry until almost done.

Add in the mince a bit at a time and stir-fry until the mince is cooked.

In an oven dish, layer the pasta, then the mince mixture followed by white sauce.

Repeat this procedure; make sure you end with white sauce.

Sprinkle the grated cheese over and bake for 20 minutes.
