A new behind-the-scenes documentary entitled The First Graduating Class: Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls will air locally on TLC today.

Since media mogul Oprah Winfrey opened the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls south of Johannesburg in January 2007, there has been no shortage of publicity – from Nelson Mandela praising what the school would mean to South Africa’s women, to a damaging abuse scandal in 2007.

The 85-minute feature follows the first group of girls to graduate from the Academy and is partly narrated by Winfrey herself.

The documentary airs today on Discovery TLC (channel 186 on DSTV) at 6:30pm and again on Saturday at 5.40pm and on Sunday at 4pm.
