Murder-accused Christopher Panayiotou's mistress' best friend was cross-examined by his lawyer in court today.

On his wedding day Christopher Panayiotou told his mistress' best friend that he was not sure if he was doing the right thing, the Eastern Cape High Court heard on Monday.

Clarishka Kapp, who is best friends with Panayiotou's mistress Chanelle Coutts, told the court that Panayiotou called her and told her he was scared of losing Coutts.

The court also heard that Panayiotou joked with Kapp that she should "come and kidnap him".

Kapp was being cross-examined by Panayiotou's lawyer Terry Price, who denied that his client had ever said he was scared of losing her friend.

"Let's look at your statement: You say that you got a call from him on his wedding day. You say further that he was worried about whether he was doing the right thing.

"But it does not say he was worried about losing Chanelle," Price said.

No recollection

"I did not mention it in my statement but he did say that to me," Kapp responded.

She said she did not include it in her statement because she did not remember it at the time.

Kapp also couldn't recall whether she had told the police or not.

"Well the first time we heard about this was on Thursday last week. Can you tell us why we had to wait to hear about this on Thursday last week," Price asked.

Kapp said she could not.

The court also heard that Chanelle slept over at Panayiotou's home a number of times. However, Price denied this saying Kapp had no proof of it.

Kapp told the court that Coutts had slept over more than three times.

"Were you present when she slept over?" Price asked.

"I ask again, were you present when she slept over?"

'Slept over many times'

Kapp then told the court that Coutts would ask her to cover for her when she would go sleep there.

"She would tell her mom she was going to sleep at my house; then she would go sleep there. She slept over there many times and she even sent me a photo of her in bed together with [Panayiotou]," Kapp said.

Price then asked her whether she had witnessed this herself, or whether she was testifying based on what Coutts had told her.

"I am going to ask for the third time, you weren't there, you relied on her statement. I am going to say you were never there when Chanelle slept over," Price said.

Kapp said the one time she was there at the house she saw a bag with Coutts' belongings in the bathroom.

"I also was at her home when she was packing her bag to go to Chris' house," Kapp added.
