An hour after saying, “I do”, Sarah Ray’s wedding day took an unexpected turn. The newlywed received a call saying her grandmother had been involved in a car crash.

Sarah, who works as a paramedic, didn’t think twice. Accompanied by her new husband Paul (who is also a paramedic), she rushed to the scene still in her wedding dress.

“We just knew they had been in a wreck and the car had been totalled. We didn't know any injuries at the time."

'I don’t think what we did was heroic'

Despite her actions being praised online, Sarah insists there was nothing special about it.

"There are a lot of people that are using the word 'hero,'" said Sarah.

"I don’t think what we did was heroic. It's just anything that any first-responder would have done.”

Regardless, she thinks the photo, which was taken by her mom, is “great”.

"It definitely makes for a memorable wedding. I hate that the actual accident had to happen, but everyone is going to be OK, so we can kind of laugh about it [the photo] now."
