The badly decomposed bodies of a man and woman of Northdale, Pietermaritzburg, were discovered in their home on Tuesday.

The bodies of Subendran (38) and his wife Desiree Naicker (35) were found after neighbours became worried because they hadn’t seen the couple since the middle of December.

'It’s alleged Subendran first shot his wife and then himself'

Neighbours say they last saw the couple on or about 15 December and assumed they’d gone on holiday. But when several calls to the couple’s home went to voicemail, a neighbour decided to report the couple as missing at the police station.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker confirmed the couple had been reported missing last week. The police arrived at the couple’s house on Tuesday and found piles of newspapers and post lying around in the garden.

The fire brigade helped the police gain access to the house where they found the badly decomposed bodies in a bedroom.

“It’s alleged Subendran first shot his wife and then himself,” Naicker says. A bloodied gun was found at the scene.

It’s not clear exactly when the couple died. Neither of them worked and nor did they have children.

A inquest into their deaths has been launched and a murder docket has been opened.
