The body of a police sergeant from Krugersdorp was found hanging at the magistrate's court in the town on Tuesday.

A security guard discovered the body around 14:30 where it was hanging in a passage near the cells at the court.

According to a reliable source, in an apparent suicide attempt in December last year, the sergeant had jumped from a window at his accommodation in police quarters.

“The Krugersdorp police station is devastated by the sad news regarding one of its members,” Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp police station, told YOU.

“Our deepest sympathies for the family, friends and colleagues of the sergeant,” station commander Brigadier Patrick Baloyi said in a statement.

A judicial inquiry is under way.
