While most people are winding down for the festive season, a gang of alleged robbers in Humerail, Port Elizabeth, are still very busy.

On Monday morning at around 3 am a popular pub was broken into and thieves made off with 14 bottles of alcohol.

And the crooks have expensive taste too: the loot included some top quality cognac and whiskey.

One of the accused, with a red cap and remarkable beard, even made the effort of wearing gloves so he wouldn’t leave fingerprints. But they didn’t take into account the security cameras which caught them in action.

Johan Reeder, manager of the bar told Herald Live that the theft amounts to about R7 000.

Thankfully the thieves were so determined (or so thirsty) that they completely missed a laptop and cash.

But their unwelcome “visit” to the bar was only just a warm-up for their next crime – and there was nothing pious about their intentions. The Word of Faith Christian Centre in Mangold Park was their next target.

After they managed to get into the centre, which is also used as a kid’s church, they tried to pry a television off the wall. All they managed to do, however, was to break the TV. Once again, they weren’t paying attention to the security camera. When one of them realized that they were being filmed and tried to cover his head, it was already too late.

A case is currently pending with the Walmer police.
