Former presenter of the popular SABC 2 show was shot dead during a robbery in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

Former presenter of the popular SABC 2 environment show 50/50 was shot dead during a robbery in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

A trusted source disclosed to YOU that Johann Botha, who lived in Kensington and was recently a freelance producer for Carte Blanche, was shot in the head while socialising in Jeppestown with the owner of Zebra Inn Takeaways, better known as ‘Swazi’s pub’.

The owner was shot in the chest. Both were declared dead at the scene.

According to a police source, two robbers entered the bar shortly after 19:00. The man and woman allegedly socialised at the pub the previous night and the barman found it suspicious when the man asked where the toilets were.

“When he apparently asked him, 'but you were here last night weren’t you?' the man took out the gun,” the sources said.

The robber told the man to lay on the ground and demanded money from the owner. The owner refused.

“Johann said he would give the money but the robber immediately shot him in the head,” he explained.

The owner was then also shot.

Captain Richard Munyani, spokesperson for the Jeppestown police, confirmed the incident but wouldn’t confirm the names of the victims.

YOU independently confirmed with two sources that Johann was one of the victims. The police say a charge of business robbery and two charges of murder are being investigated.
