Pork burgers

Burgers - a great companion for fun times and lovely, lazy weekends

Serves 6

Preparation time: 15 min

Cooking time: 25 min

500g pork mince

1 egg, whisked

60 ml (¼ c) hoisin sauce

handful of parsley, chopped

180 ml (¾ cup) fresh breadcrumbs

salt and freshly ground black pepper

1 onion, finely chopped

30 ml (2 T) oil

2 garlic cloves, crushed

TO COMPLETE

60 ml (¼ c) flour

2 eggs, whisked

125 ml (½ c) dry breadcrumbs

oil for shallow-frying

TO SERVE

6 rolls, lettuce leaves, sliced tomato and onion

sauce(s) of your choice

1    Preheat the oven to 180 °C.

2    Mix the mince with the egg, hoisin sauce, parsley, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper.

3    Gently fry the onion in the oil until soft but not brown. Stir in the garlic and a little salt and pepper. Allow to cool, then combine well with the mince mixture.

4    Shape the mixture into medium patties.

   To complete: Put the flour, egg and breadcrumbs in separate shallow dishes.

6    Dip the patties in the flour, then in the egg and lastly in the breadcrumbs. Shallow-fry in hot oil for about 4 minutes a side. Drain on paper towels, transfer to a baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 5 minutes to make sure the meat is cooked through.

7    To serve: Put the patties in rolls, dress with lettuce, tomato, onion and a sauce(s) of your choice.
