Monaco's Princess Charlene is ready to have children.

The former Olympic swimmer needed a period of "adjustment" after her wedding to Prince Albert in 2011 and wanted to take time to set up a charitable foundation in her name but she’s now preparing to focus on family life.

Charlene ? who was the subject of claims she’d tried to flee from Albert twice before their nuptials ? said: "I think I needed a bit of time to settle in and adjust. I don't put any pressure on myself. It'll happen. If it happens, it happens.

"I wanted to get my foundation launched. We had a big wedding. It was a big adjustment after that. Now I'm settled and I think kids will come."

As a swimmer, Charlene competed internationally and won medals at the Commonwealth Games and All Africa Games but says her career highlight came in her only Olympics appearance, the 2000 Sydney Games.

She told South Africa's Sunday World newspaper: "The highlight of my career was the Olympics. Walking into that stadium and knowing I'd achieved a dream I'd had since I was eight years old.

"I've still got my friends and we still keep in contact. That's what sport gives you ? lifetime friendships. That's more valuable than anything else."
