Princess Diana's stunning Emanuel gown, which she wore on three occasions, is expected to sell for R1,32 million at auction next month.

A fairytale princess-like dress worn by Princess Diana is set to fetch up to £80 000 (R1,32 million) at auction.

The late Princess of Wales wore the stunning gown created by David and Elizabeth Emanuel ? who also created her wedding dress ? on three separate occasions and it's thought the cream-coloured dress was among her favourite outfits.

The gown, which is adorned in crystals, pearl beads and gold sequins, is from the designers' 1986 Diaghilev collection, which was inspired by the creations worn by Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes ballet company.

Kerry Taylor Auction House in London will sell the one-of-a-kind couture on 3 December and describe it as "arguably one of the most ornate, romantic of all Princess Diana's gowns". The late royal ? who died in a car crash in Paris, France, in August 1997 ? wore the dress to a function at the German ambassador's London home in July 1986, and at a Bolshoi Ballet performance that same month at the Royal Opera House. She wore the gown again a year later in June 1987 for the premiere of James Bond film The Living Daylights. In March, Kerry Taylor auctioned off 10 dresses worn by Diana for £862 000 (R14,2 million). Among them was a midnight blue Victor Edelstein gown which sold for £240 000 (R4 million).
