Protect yourself and your partner against stroke

Moms often tend to get so caught up in caring for the health of their children they forget to look after their own. Stop the habit of eating on the run and include more fruit and veg in your diet – it could protect you and your partner against stroke!

A recent study published in the British Medical Journal indicated calcium found in fruit and vegetables could be beneficial for your blood pressure. Two or three extra portions of fruit or vegetables could lower your risk of having a stroke.

Researchers studied more than 128 000 healthy people and found more calcium (3-4 g) lowers your risk for a stroke by about a quarter.

The World Health Organisation recently released guidelines for calcium intake for the first time and says adults should ingest more than 4 g of calcium a day. This means you should eat at least five portions of calcium-rich food a day. These include bananas, fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, milk, fish and chicken.
