What was it like working with Demi Lovato on your new track, Somebody To You?

It was really cool. We met her in London two months ago. We shot the music video separately in Malibu, California. We really like Demi. Tristan is a huge fan. My favourite song from her is Heart Attack.

What are your favourite tracks off your debut album, Meet The Vamps?

I really enjoy Somebody To You. I love playing it live. I also like High Hopes, which we wrote with [British rockers] McFly.

When did you get your start in music?

When I was nine or 10 playing guitar with friends at school. No one in any of our families is a musician.

What would you do if you weren’t a muso?

I would be at university probably studying English and history. My favourite subjects in school were English and history. My worst was maths!

What are some of your must-haves on tour?

An X-box and music. We listen to country, Florida Georgia Line, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran. We’ve met Taylor a few times. I’d like to say we’re friends (laughs).

You have a ton of A-list fans, even former US first lady Hillary Clinton . . .

(Laughs) Yes! We were at a London radio station in July and she was there and recognised us. She’s a really nice lady. (After the meeting the band even tweeted, “Haha @HillaryClinton just came up and asked, ‘Are you guys The Vamps?’ We’re all confused and impressed. She was sooooo nice!”)

What’s the strangest gift you’ve ever received from a fan?

Body hair!

You’re being compared to hit boy bands such as One Direction. How do you feel about that?

We like One Direction.

You’ve toured with Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. Who’s been your favourite tour mate so far?

I think Taylor Swift.

Are you all single? And would you ever date a fan?

Yeah, most of us are single. Yeah, we would date a fan. Why not?

Who’s your celeb crush?

All of us have celeb crushes. Brad likes New Girl star Zooey Deschanel. I like Taylor Swift, I guess.

With which fellow celeb would you trade places for 24 hours?

Zac Efron – because I’d like to act.

Describe a typical day in the life of The Vamps.

We’re together 24 hours. Sometimes we have a gig. We don’t really work on one another’s nerves because we like to be together.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like walking. And I go with the other guys to the gym and play X-box.

If you could trade places with another member of your band for a day, who would it be?

Probably Tristan. He can play drums!

Who takes the longest to get ready for a gig?

Brad. He has to warm up his voice.

Are there any divas in the group?

No!

What songs are you listening to at the moment?

Ed Sheeran’s album X.

What’s your ringtone?

A phone ringing (laughs).

Who’s your inspiration or role model?

Ed Sheeran. He’s stayed grounded.

Have you ever been to SA? Can we expect a tour?

No, we haven’t. We’d like to visit. Maybe we’ll see you next year!

Their road to fame . . .

In 2011 James was a solo act. He wanted to form a band and discovered Brad on YouTube. Brad became the lead singer and the duo started writing songs. A year later Brad found Tristan on Facebook. They held an audition for a bass player and Connor joined. The awesome foursome signed a record deal later that year.

DID YOU KNOW?

Female fans of The Vamps are known as Vampettes. The guys are Vampions.
