Queen Elizabeth's former press secretary Dickie Arbiter doesn't foresee her giving up the crown like other European monarchs who've abdicated, and says she will reign until she "draws her last breath".

Britain's Queen Elizabeth will reign until she "draws her last breath".

The royal's former press secretary Dickie Arbiter doesn't foresee her being inspired by recent abdications around Europe and giving up her throne in order to allow Prince Charles to be king. The claim comes after Spain's King Juan Carlos announced his abdication on Monday and it also follows recent abdications in Belgium and Holland. Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Dickie said: "It's not going to happen here, we have stability. The queen doesn't do abdication. You've got to remember, that's how she got there in the first place, through her uncle abdicating at the end of 1936. She was never destined to have the job she has now. She's firing on all cylinders. She's here until she draws her last breath, as she's said time and time again."

Dickie also conceded the 89-year-old royal is probably "secretly disapproving" of the idea of abdication, noting that some of the recent abdications have stemmed from controversy.

The former royal aide also dismissed similarities between the future monarchs, Prince Felipe and his former TV presenter wife Princess Letizia, and Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

He said: "They're in their 40s, William and Kate are in their 30s. Felipe is a graduate, he also has an economics background. He's had military training but not military service, whereas William has had military service. His wife has had a career in broadcasting, but Kate hasn't had a career at all. They're young, but they don't share similarities, I don't think."
