"There was a time in my life where I considered bleaching myself to avoid the dirty looks, the laughter, for boys to find me attractive."

She once considered bleaching her skin -- but now she has people all over the world falling in love with her rich, ebony tone.

South Sudanese model Nyakim Gatwetch has been taking Instagram by storm with her black-is-beautiful posts.

The 24-year-old model encourages black women to love their skin tone, no matter how light or dark it is.

“There’s nothing more attractive than a woman who is comfortable in her own skin," says Nyakim, who's been dubbed Queen of the Dark by her fans -- a name she says she adores.

Nyakim is slowly breaking down the barriers of conventional beauty and encourages other women to do the same, reminding her followers they are beautiful and unique.

"Stop comparing your skin anyone," she captioned one of her many exquisite Instagram images. "Change can only happen once you can truthfully look in the mirror and love that Deep Chocolate, Cinnamon, Mocha, or Caramel complexion."

But Nyakim wasn’t always this confident about her own skin colour.

"There was a time in my life where I considered bleaching myself to avoid the dirty looks, the laughter, and for boys to find me attractive," Nyakim says.

She says that as she grew up she learned to love herself and tried not to pay any attention to negative people.

So when an Uber driver recently asked her if she would ever bleach her skin for $10 000 (R132 000), she simply laughed and said: "Why on earth would I ever bleach this beautiful melanin God blessed me with?"

"The message I have for my sisters is that how you look doesn't matter, as long as you feel beautiful inside."
